Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind: “September” to Play on Repeat on 21st

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT will play Earth, Wind & Fire’s hit song “September” on repeat throughout the day on September 21st. The classic song specifically mentions the 21st, hence the tie-in to the day.

In 2023, Disney made this same temporary change, but did not announce it in advance. However, this year they’ve given fans some notice in advance. Unlike TRON / Lightcycle Run which recently ditched its virtual queue, guests will need to either secure a spot in the virtual queue or purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass to experience the attraction.

About Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Cosmic Rewind is EPCOT’s first roller coaster and Disney’s first reverse-launch coaster. The attraction features rotating ride vehicles that direct guests toward the action while traveling at high speeds through the cosmos.

The ride typically plays one of six classic songs randomly during each experience. These songs include:

  • “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire
  • “Disco Inferno” by The Trammps
  • “Conga” by Gloria Estefan
  • “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears
  • “I Ran” by A Flock of Seagulls
  • “One Way or Another” by Blondie

“September” the Song

“September” holds a special place in music history. Released in 1978, the song has become one of Earth, Wind & Fire’s most recognizable hits. Its upbeat tempo and catchy lyrics make it a perfect fit for Cosmic Rewind’s high-energy experience. Interestingly, songwriter Allee Willis revealed that there’s no specific significance to the date September 21st in the song. It was chosen simply because it sang better than other dates they tried during the writing process.
