Disneyland Resort will soon begin a major project to update the entry gates at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. The project, set to start on October 7, 2024, will be completed in phases with a target end date in 2025. These dates come courtesy of Scott Gustin on X.
The primary goal of this $4.8 million overhaul is to improve the guest experience upon entering the parks. Additional gates will be added to increase capacity and efficiency. Furthermore, the new gates will be designed to accommodate strollers and be fully ADA accessible.
Phased Installation of New Disneyland Entry Gates
To minimize impacts on park arrivals, Disney will take a phased approach to the construction. They will work on one turnstile bank at a time, starting with the Disneyland west side entrance on October 7.
The new automated gates will be modeled after those already in use at Disneyland Paris. These gates automatically open after a Cast Member scans and validates the guest’s park ticket, streamlining the entry process.
One set of gates at Disney California Adventure was already replaced as part of a testing process before a larger rollout.
Part of Larger Enhancements
The entry gate project is just one of many enhancements coming to the Disneyland Resort.
The Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort is undergoing an exciting transformation, with several new shopping and dining experiences set to open in the coming months. This winter, the district will welcome the Avengers Reserve, a store dedicated to the fandom of Marvel’s Avengers, offering a curated selection of collectibles, apparel, accessories, toys, and comics. The D-Lander Shop will also debut, featuring Southern California-inspired fashion, including trend-forward apparel, accessories, and jewelry.
In addition to the new shops, Downtown Disney will see the expansion and rebranding of Marceline’s Confectionery into the Disney Wonderful World of Sweets. This reimagined candy store will offer a variety of treats, such as churro toffee, caramel apples, and freshly made Werther’s Original Caramel popcorn, all created in an exhibition kitchen visible from the promenade. Foodies can also look forward to two new restaurants by Michelin-starred Chef Joe Isidori – a sophisticated steakhouse and a quick-service barbecue eatery, both located on the former site of Tortilla Jo’s. These new additions promise to enhance the already vibrant atmosphere of the Downtown Disney District, providing guests with even more reasons to explore and enjoy this dynamic destination.
