The Cake Bake Shop Issued Warnings After State Health Inspections

The Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s Boardwalk, which opened in October 2024, faces corrective action after a March 12, 2025 routine state health inspection revealed multiple food safety violations. Inspectors flagged issues requiring follow-up, including improper food storage, sanitation, and missing required proof of employee food safety training.

A callback inspection on March 18 confirmed unresolved training compliance, prompting a 60-day warning. Based on data from the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, less than 5% of inspections have resulted in warnings being issued since July 1, 2024 around the Walt Disney World Resort area.

The Cake Bake Shop, which touts itself as a “whimsical table service restaurant and bakery”, is not owned or operated by The Walt Disney Company. The restaurant was criticized for its high prices when the menu was first released, some of which the restaurant modified before opening.

High Priority Violations

Three high priority violations were observed, which included:

  • Dishwasher Sanitization Failure: The dishwashing machine failed to reach FDA-mandated sanitization temperatures (160°F). Staff were advised to use manual sanitization until repairs.
  • Temperature Control Lapses: Key lime pie and chocolate peanut butter mousse were found at 55°F and 59°F, respectively. Cold foods should be held at 41°F or below.

Intermediate and Basic Violations

Below are additional violations, along with the inspector’s comments on each issue:

  • Food-contact surface cleanliness: “Food-contact surface soiled with food debris, mold-like substance or slime. Observed two white cutting boards soiled has black discoloration on the surface located on cook line.”
  • Cloth used as a food-contact surface: “Observed green cloth stored on the salmon inside walk in cooler name on the box (Chix wet wipe).”
  • Proof of required state approved employee training: “No employee food handling training provided for any employees at time of inspection.” This violation remained unresolved by the March 18 follow-up, triggering a 60-day compliance deadline.
