Tropical Storm Oscar Forms Near Florida, Not Expected to Impact Disney World

A new tropical system has emerged in the Atlantic, but it’s not expected to cause significant disruption to Florida or Walt Disney World. A tropical system which has been moving across the Atlantic this week was upgraded to Tropical Storm Oscar this morning. This makes it the seventeenth named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season.

Tropical Storm Oscar Details

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports that Oscar is currently located east-southeast of the Bahamas. The storm is moving due west towards Cuba at the moment. While Oscar is nearing Florida, its projected path shows it moving away from the coast and into the open Atlantic over the coming days.

Unlike the recent Hurricane Milton, which caused widespread closures and damage across Florida, Tropical Storm Oscar is not expected to have a significant impact on the state. The NHC forecasts that Oscar will remain offshore and gradually strengthen as it moves away from land.

Walt Disney World Status

Walt Disney World, which recently reopened after closing due to Hurricane Milton, is not expected to face any disruptions from Tropical Storm Oscar. The theme park complex in Orlando is operating normally, having completed its damage assessment and cleanup efforts following Milton’s passage.

Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key, Florida, on October 9, 2024. The storm caused Walt Disney World to close its theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs for two days. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa remained closed for an extended period due to the storm’s impact.

Recovery and Reopening

Walt Disney World reopened its theme parks and Disney Springs on Friday, October 11, after completing a thorough damage assessment. The resort thanked its cast members for their efforts during and after the storm to ensure guest safety. While some Halloween-themed events were canceled, the parks quickly resumed normal operations.

Ongoing Hurricane Season

As Tropical Storm Oscar forms, it serves as a reminder that the Atlantic hurricane season continues through November 30. While Oscar is not expected to cause significant issues for Florida or Walt Disney World, residents and visitors should remain vigilant and stay informed about any future tropical systems that may develop.
